ABOUT ME

Deimantė Karaliūtė (b. Lithuania) is a painter whose work is shaped by her studies in architecture - an education that trained her to see structure, proportion, and the tension between strict lines and open space. This way of thinking carries into each painting: compositions are positioned like plans, and color is used as a form of light.

Her current work is more graphic than before, moving between passages of realism and simplified form. Botanicals, animals, the natural world, and motifs borrowed from Greek antiquity recur throughout. Above all, she paints sentiment and memory - the people and moments that have meant the most to her: her mother's love expressed through florals, her father's love of botanicals, and the women in her line whose love and belief in her have never wavered. Each painting tries to hold a single meaningful exchange, a moment of closeness with someone she loves.
